New Experiences!

I have been thinking about  and wanting to do this for a long time....

Yes, those are diapers..cloth diapers to be exact. Do you see any pins? Because I don't...I just see velcro. The only thing that has kept from taking the plunge and going cloth is the amount of options out there. I had no clue what kind or how many or what size..AIO, prefold, blah blah blah..  it was all gibberish to me. I asked some friends about a year ago for some information. I got great feedback, but it was almost too much. I was overwhelmed and scared. I thought that I would most likely buy the wrong kind...have to buy bigger sizes all of the time...and end up spending more money than on disposables. I stopped thinking about it for a while, and then a friend of mine in Livermore started using them. I asked her for some info, and she just told me what she was using. It was simple and seemed full proof.  I researched a little longer, and then I decided to jump in with both feet. I ordered 12 cloth diapers..why cloth...you ask. Well I have a few reasons: First of all, I have two children in diapers...that is A LOT of money every month. I also have been watching how many dirty diapers leave our house on a daily basis, and honestly, I am disgusted. Now I know that it isn't for everyone, and I don't blame anyone who doesn't use them. Once I found that I could buy cloth diapers that would adjust as my baby grew, I figured I had nothing to lose. I bought 6 Bum Genius diapers and 6 Alva Baby diapers. BGs are the expensive ones with the velcro that are super cute, and Alva baby are MUCH cheaper and snap. They are both adjustable and fit babies up to 35 lbs. I know, I know...that seems impossible, but I tried it out with my two boys (Beckett 19 lbs. and Maddox 35 lbs.). They worked great with either one. Washing the diapers isn't as big of a deal as I thought. It is a little gross, but once you get passed the fact that you just have to do it, it isn't that bad. I bought a wet bag (for the dirty diapers to go in) for my diaper bag, but I am still trying to figure out the best way to deal with the ones that I change at home. I guess I need to buy a bigger wet bag. Anyway,  I have been using cloth with Beckett for over a month now. So far...so good. Now for Maddox...

He is two and a half and has been talking about pooping for a little while. He is also starting to hide when he poops and stay dry for long periods of time. I know that both of these things are signs that he might be ready for potty training, so we took him to Target to pick out some undies. We thought for sure that he would pick Toy Story, but he surprised us and picked Thomas. He doesn't really watch Thomas and didn't refer to them as Thomas underwear. He just said choo choo over and over again. Choo Choo underwear it is! Aren't they cute?

This was my attempt to take a picture of Maddox in said underwear while he was wanting to hold the camera. Horrible face, but you get the idea. He looks adorable in undies! Sadly, Maddox wasn't quite ready for potty training. He sat on the potty like a champ over and over....then peed all over the floor. He didn't even care that his underwear was soaking wet with pee. I figured that it might be better for us to revisit this challenge in a couple of months. I don't wanna push too hard...and I don't want a power struggle on my hands. Bye bye choo choos...until next time.
