Maddox Goes to School

I still cannot believe that Maddox is old enough to go to school. Wasn't he just born? We started talking about this new adventure weeks ago. We have had a lot of changes recently, so I didn't want this one to sneak up on us and blindside the child. The idea to prepare him may have been a good one only in theory because every day after our first school discussion Maddox would wake up and ask, "I go cool today mama?" I would explain to him how long it would be until school started. When the night before his first day finally arrived, he could hardly contain himself, and I could hardly believe that I really had to take him to school  leave my first born with complete strangers for 2.5 hours the next day. Before bed that night, we read Curious George Goes to School for a little extra explanation of what might happen at school. After reading the first few pages, Maddox said with a huge smile on his face, "I go cool mom!"
Yes, Maddox, you are going to school.

This was definitely a special day that warranted a special Mickey Mouse Clubhouse breakfast...

and a heart shape pb soy butter and jelly sandwich. Apples for the first day of school are the obvious fruit choice right?

Yes, of course I had to try the whole pinterest  First Day of School sign. This was the best picture of him, but it was a little blurry. :(

Since we had a busy weekend, I did not make it to the store to get the adorable chalkboard that everyone else is using, but I improvised with this picture frame with scrapbook paper sign inside. Maybe I should have taken the glass out first....oh well. He is attending a 3 year old preschool class at a church in the area, and he said he wants to be like "pider man" when he grows up which is such a huge suprise.

I wish that this adorable sign had not been right in the sun. He did the best he could to smile and look amazingly cool at the same time with his hand in his pocket all while the sun was  blinding him.

We had to get a picture with brother even though he was not feeling very well.

Maddox is so shy as you can tell...he ran right in and never once looked back to see where I was. lol.

Getting to know the boys. They bonded over cars.

Miss Dana (notice hand on hip and actual pose)

My glimpse of him on the playground when I came to pick him up. I was early to pick him because I couldn't wait to see my little buddy Beckett needed to nap in the car.

He was very happy to see me when I came to the door, and he even ran out yelling "mommy!" which made my whole day of course. He said that he had a great time at school and that he painted and ate apples.

As much as it makes me happy to know that he is having fun and learning, there is a part of me that is sad to see him go off to school this year even if it is for just a few hours a couple of days a week. I have known every moment of every day since he was born. I have been apart of just about every thing that he has ever done. I know that I am being selfish and that this is a part of life, but I am gonna miss that little booger. I guess deep down I know that this is just the beginning of many more goodbyes that will just be harder and harder. Now don't get me wrong, I really will be thankful for a little break to get some things done and spend time with Beckett (my other joy), but I'll definitely miss my buddy.

  1. Janna, you have brought me joy and made me proud since the day you were born, but watching the kind of mother you are exceeds all.. your boys show the love and work you put into raising them by being happy and open to the world.

    1. Thank you so much Aunt Gayle! You have no idea how much I needed that encouragement. Of course, I should note that these are our best moments captured...I am doing the best I can, but I make as many mistakes as I have victories. Such is life I guess. Nonetheless,it means a lot coming from you! I have always admired you! I love you sooo much and miss you more than you know!
